Two weeks to go!

With the release of our brand new record Frozen Dust imminent, we are hard at work at Hi-Sonorous towers putting the final preparations together for the release on 1st August. As you read this, Air Mastering are busying themselves in huge-ifying the tunes, our resident code-monkey is frantically constructing the website, and emails, facebook statuses and tweets are firing off around the globe as we step our promotion into gear.

On top of all this, this week, we're attempting to achieve the ridiculous task of shooting a music video for the 'single', and cut it all together in time for the 1st August. The ridiculous part is that half of the video will be shot on location in Dehli, India!!

Mind = boggling.

Photo shoot!!

Thanks so much to all of you who turned out to be part of our Frozen Dust cover shot on Sunday evening. We had a very successful time of it, and hope now to be able to announce the release of the record very soon. Stay tuned!

The evening was certainly a lesson learning experience...

Particularly about camera batteries and their propensity to get left in the charger.

Also, as one of our worker bees Martin here is showing, when you've spent years doing up your tie when you're bleary eyed and half asleep still, when required to perform said task at unusual hours, it's very possible to completely forget how to do it! What this photo doesn't sadly convey is the full 10 minutes and help from colleagues it took to get him to remember.

We also learnt that Mark Phillips officially has the greatest ministry-of-silly-walks walk in the world.

And that Joe Kent has done his stretches.

Our marvelous and glorious concept for this cover is however slightly more serious. Sarah, the only girl in the shot, represents 100 million Indian Dalits, who according to the UN are the most trafficked people group in the world; our worker drones represent an ignorant West, oblivious in its pursuit of economic riches. Both having lost something of themselves. Both in need of each other.

But of course all great concepts are pointless til realised, and we'll see a bit later on today whether we've actually managed to shoot something that gets this idea across. Until then I'll leave you with some rather fetching secret agents and more silly walks...

Frozen Dust will be the first record we've ever released to have a photo as its cover, and now I realise why we've always opted for a graphic. But it's exciting to be half way there with this and I'm certainly feeling confident with the prospect of a video shoot for the single also.

Watch this space for more news on the record coming very soon...

Getting arty

Change of scene this week - I'm currently gearing up for some artwork days to put together the graphics for the Frozen Dust record. I'm really excited to be working with Alex Douglas - blaaow.tumblr.com - where the above photo resides, and my sister Rachel again, who drew the beautiful Perspective Is Everything artwork we currently have as our blog's background.

The record's going to be an online release like The Waiting Line, but this time we want to make the website more of an experience with more artwork and interactive things. Ideas are flowing, and all that will determine the result will be how quick we can work, so I'm hoping for big things!

The whole theme for the artwork is poverty meets big glitzy city and I'm starting by sifting back through a load of holiday photos of grand city-scapes in Chicago and New York and seeing if I have anything I can work with.

I have some fairly specific visual ideas for the cover and next week Rach and I are gonna do some scouting for shoot locations in North London. Once we have some fantastic looking shots I'll get onto the site design. Got some great ideas and really excited about bringing the record to life visually.

Frozen Dust Melted...

The 'Frozen Dust' record started around a year ago and due to other projects it got put on hold (and was itself frozen!) after we'd done the main bulk of the writing! The songs just needed the featured vocalists to come in and do their thing... over the last two weeks that happened!! Can I just say the tunes are sounding amazing?!!! Well, I have just said it.

We're shooting for July 2011 as a release for the record which is going to be available to the world to download for FREE. The record has been written aiming to raise awareness and cash for Operation Mobilisation (and the Dalit Freedom Network) as they build schools for the millions of kids across India who are 'cast out' of normal society. We're totally passionate about this cause and the music and can't wait for you to hear it!!

You can see some of the sessions with Nishma Menon, Capucine Falgas, Andy Dennis and Byron Gold on our YouTube channel.

Busy Times!

April is pretty stacked with things going on! First up, our horribly depressing (yet amazing) album 'Frozen Dust' is progressing nicely. We welcomed some beautiful singers to Purple Squares over the past couple of weeks to sing on several of the tunes. Nishma, Capucine and Andy did marvellous jobs and thoroughly ramped up the general greatness of the record. I love that making music brings people together, and these sessions again reminded me of this - we had lots of laughs, as the appalling and thankfully as-yet unseen video footage testifies!

Looking ahead, I'm very excited about Brokenfor coming to record with us. Also, at long last we're getting back to work on Tommy Eye's new album, which I cannot say enough good things about. I'm positively bursting with good things to say about it. 'Unfinished' is the only negative word I can honestly associate with it at this point.

Other recent shinnanigans include mastering a mixtape for The Growth, writing and producing with Ebonie G, and secret talks with important people about future projects I can't possibly say anything about at this point.
